If you ever get the chance check out the park along the river in Monticello, MN you will see hundreds of them.
In early spring they come in groups and can be seen on the Mississippi at Grand Rapids…..
Hit our lake just before freeze up
Beautiful clip – the sounds and scenes were outstanding. Thank you.
Ours are wintering here in Sequim…
One of my favorite places to visit in early winter and late spring is the Mississippi River in southeastern Minnesota during migration. Either down or up…I love watching the big Tundra Swans and Snow Geese coming and going through my state. There’s something so primal…so intuitive…about following an ancient calling…especially the very first time when you have no idea in the world where you’re going…. but you trust your family, and you trust your elders, and you trust the stars, and you fly.

Thanks for the beautiful clip.
My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter and I followed the flight of 4 swans over Watkins Lake in Waterford, Michigan, this afternoon. Their synchronized movement and white brightness stood out against the browns of winter. Stunning!
Seeing this beautiful, strong, grace amazes me. I have also seen them in the MN River valley wetlands lately.
Thank you.
Thank you.
lovely!

common goldeneye plus one (not sure what the different bird is—a diving bird, of course. Grebe?
the big boys are trumpeters.
I love the way the swans lower their landing gear so smoothly!
These swans are so graceful. Just this week I have seen them flying over head….must mean spring is coming!
Snow geese ?
You have to love the swans…the trumpet and then a perfectly graceful landing..gliding to a soft touchdown. And those little ducks bobbing for food. Was wondering what kind of ducks they are.
Donna, I’m no expert but I think those ducks are known as “Common Goldeneye”. Here is a great website for bird identification: http://www.allaboutbirds.org it gives you audio for their calls, lots of photos and similar species.
Thanks for the information Eileen.
Trumpeter swans return. How amazing.

A few flocks of swans and countless geese, heading north over New Ulm Minnesota, Feb 18th. Very few small pockets of open water to be found nearby.
