    Love these….

  • Amazingly, peaceful.

  • Beautiful pictographs but the breathing noise demeans it.

Really enjoyed this. Always wonder where this is? The leaf on the ice is beautiful. Good time to be ice fishing. Thank you

These are on North Hegman Lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota.

  • Jessica Molitor Pietraszewski

I remember this one, fascinating images!

  • Norman Criswick

Painting standing the test of time.

Sad that the moose population is declining in northern MN and elsewhere. Brain worm seems to be a frequent culprit. Too many deer.

  • Nice and clear petroglyphs, Jim Brandenburg! Thanks!

  • North Hegman Lake easiest to visit up close in winter

  • Simple birchleaf ending perfect!

Sure wish I could see some of this dripping and melting in Northern Mich!! End of March—— sunny and 8*? What?? Snow starting first of week! It’s making for some very short tempers! It’s been winter for close to 1/2 a year!

Love the pictographs. You certainly can tell what is occurring in them. Who ever did these was not a bad artist for his time. TFS

  • Caitlin Nicol-Thomas S. Hedburg Lake, I’m pretty sure.

  • thank you

  • I am not going to watch anymore. I cannot get full screen! I am getting disgusted with Facebook!

    • I just noticed the same, but when I checked my Phone Settings, Screen Rotation was “off” for some reason…

You should still be able to sign up to get them as daily emails. We did that several years ago and they are fine when they come in emails.

  • Emily Brake, Aaron Brake Tamba was the only one who didn’t like going to see this!

In the pictograph we can plainly see a wolf chasing its prey!

I do not often comment, but am every morning grateful for the moment of beauty and sense you give us. And thank you for your occasional representation of spirit voices. They are as vital and integral part of the natural world as all the rest.

I’m often slow and miss things until someone points them out. The breathing sounds always seemed so out of place, but your calling them spirit voices will let me hear them differently from now on. Thank you for that, Carol.

This photography in this daily format is an amazing legacy. We are all in such great need of staying connected to our earth family, and to beauty in all its forms. This morning, I feel extremely grateful for what you are doing and sharing with everyone.

  • Mr. Brandenburg…I keep meaning to ask you…did you see the short video clip out of Canada that a woman took on her way in to work? There were two black wolves running on the road. I first saw the clip on March 17th, but it was shared on many other sites after that. It gave me goosebumps when the lady pulled up next to each wolf running. They looked so powerful running along so effortlessly.
